Minds On Fire is an independent publishing company tailored to electronic music, working directly with artists and also offering publishing administration services to record labels.
It was founded in 2011 by James Pitt and Simon Harris, two men who have racked up over 35 years of experience in the music business between them. No, they can scarcely believe it either. In that time they've worked with a long list of brilliant companies, including EMI Music Publishing, Fabric, Your Army, Virgin Records, EMI Records and Polydor Records.
As the music industry changes, publishing becomes an increasingly important income stream for songwriters. In order to be sustainable, it makes a huge difference to work alongside a team who's right for you, who will work hard to push your music. Could that team be Minds On Fire? Yes it could, thanks for asking but we guess you want to know why.
Well, we understand that electronic music is unique in the music industry, in its creation, in the culture that surrounds it and in how it is marketed. It's the fastest developing type of music out there, with new genres born on an almost weekly basis. While other genres rely on constantly revisiting the past, across electronic music people are continuously pushing forward and finding new sounds. That's what makes it thrilling to be a part of, and why we chose to focus on it exclusively. First and foremost, we're electronic music fans. We want as many people as possible to access it and experience it, and to ensure that the people making the music can earn a living doing what they love so that they can continue to innovate.
Based in London, Minds On Fire takes a forensic approach to internationally tracking and collecting royalties for the artists and labels we represent - we care about every penny. Basically, if there's money out there due to you, we'll find it and bring it back, like Indiana Jones. Kind of.
Minds On Fire are passionate about electronic music with independent thinking, professional accounting and flexible deals that make sense for the artist.
We track and collect royalties effectively and efficiently through having well-established links with international royalty collection societies and our experienced sub publishing partners. In the UK we work with PRS For Music, while in the US we have agreements with ASCAP and BMI, and also collect mechanical royalties direct from labels. In Europe, we are members of IMPEL, which allows us to license online music rights on a pan European basis to services like iTunes and Beatport. These deals mean there are fewer intermediaries between the artist and their royalties.
Of course, for there to be royalties to collect, the music needs to be played in the right places. Don't worry, we've got that covered too. Through our relationships and contacts within the industry, we can maximise creative opportunities (such as co-writing with other artists) and broker sync licensing deals. This means we can work to place your music in games, adverts, film, TV and on compilations.
Minds On Fire is small, so we can act fast and clear your music quickly. In a world where everyone is on a deadline, this is essential. Music supervisors can often feel frustrated when working with larger companies who have to get things rubber-stamped by everyone down a long chain of command. Therefore, the people they choose to work with again and again are those who make things easy for them. People like us.
Our contracts are flexible to ensure your deal always makes sense for you, and we provide detailed accounts twice yearly. We work alongside you at every stage, with a dedicated point of contact always at the end of the phone or an email away. Plus, we are on hand to offer advice on areas such as record releases, remix agreements, master agreements, master licensing, promotions, marketing and neighbouring rights.
Minds On Fire provides independent thinking, professional accounting and flexible deals, helping you to unlock the value in your music and develop creatively and financially.
